Students get UKPd2.6m in aid after oil spill

Article Abstract:

The government of Spain has backed an aid package worth around Euro4 mil for Galician students whose families were affected by the Prestige oil spill in northwestern Spain. The initiative, which would provide funding for local universities to promote research into the environment and conservation, came at the same time as a barrage of criticism from Spanish scientists over the official response to one of the worst environmental disasters to ever hit Spain.

Barcelona now turns to Socrates

Article Abstract:

The new Socrates student exchange programme will be launched on June 26, 1995. The programme will start operating in 1997 and will cost 850 million Ecu a year. It will still use the Erasmus name. Under the new system, communication and lines of responsibility will be improved between Brussels and the exchange universities.

Latinos to foster fair trade area

Networking links between universities in Latin America and foreign institutions should be developed for the benefit of South American students and not financial purposes, according to academics from the area.
