Tales from the Medway

Article Abstract:

A study of 30 adults, mostly from the Medway towns and Thanet, Kent, England, has highlighted the problems faced by people who enter higher education through access programmes and progress towards a degree. The students were a mixture of black and white men and women from working-class and middle-class backgrounds, and most had entered further education colleges. Students at further education colleges complained of inadequate resources and book shortages, while those who had transferred to older universities were particularly upset about the lack of feedback on essay writing.
