They don't make 'em like Horatio now

Article Abstract:

In the light of the upcoming celebration of the bicentennial of Horatio Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar, the elements that go towards making a hero are examined. It is argued that heroes are supreme exemplars of national characteristics who present a variety of qualities and flaws that can be endlessly examined by people in different eras.

Why did they do it?; bombing German cities at the end of the war

Article Abstract:

During World War 2 Britain conducted a bombing campaign against civilians in German cities, notably Dresden. Since that time this campaign has been considered immoral. Over 47,000 Britons died during the whole campaign, and air bombing accounted for a quarter of war production.

Article Abstract:

Issues relating to the decades-old stereotype of the blonde woman - dumb, materialistic and a sexual predator - are examined in comparison to centuries-old images of the blonde and in the light of the continuing growth of the amount of blonde women in modern society.
