The French psyche is contemplated to find out why complaints in France so often turn into public disorder. Hostility to the free market is uniquely strong in France, with the state expected to fulfil a central role in economic life, as embodiment of the common interest.

Detached irony doesn't always travel that well

One cartoon can create mirth in one country and bile in another and therein lies its beauty. Cartoons of Muhammad have shown that this is the case.
