Burial of 69-kV circuit celebrates bicentennial

Article Abstract:

Nashville Electric Service Co. transferred the overhead transmission and distribution lines surrounding the new Bicentennial Capitol Mall underground. The company also placed cables located in busy areas inside riser poles. The project was part of Tennessee's beautification program for its 200th anniversary celebration.

Capacitor switching needs a switch, not a circuit breaker

Article Abstract:

There are several switching devices available for minimizing electric voltage and current transients, thus improving power quality. These include controlled closing switches, circuit-switches equipped with pre-insertion inductors and circuit breakers with pre-insertion resistors.

Overhead lines buried to accommodate runway

Article Abstract:

Orlando International Airport solved their expansion needs by replacing overhead lines with underground cables. Challenges in the project included considerations of traffic density and the wet ground. The environmentally-safe project should be operable by summer 1992.
