CD Quandry: Dealers Asking for Lower Prices, Suppliers Say No

Article Abstract:

Contrary to the tradition of consumer electronics, prices for CD players are still rising. Suppliers say that they could ship lower priced units but that the time is not right. CD players are being sold mainly by dedicated audio dealers. Manufacturers have introduced rack systems with CD players in an attempt to improve sales in department stores. Sears, J.C. Penney and low ball retailers say that they will begin to sell CD players in the second half of 1984. Suppliers expect a sales volume of 200,000 units this year.
