CES Wrap-Up: At Retail

Article Abstract:

The 1984 Winter CES was the strongest buying show in history. Major categories were segregated from one another. Eight millimeter video held the most excitement. Buyer caution and confusion were high in the telephone and computer categories. Curtis Mathes plans to open between seventy-five and one hundred stores this year. K Mart is entering the video programming market.

CES Serenade: Mass Merchants Sing Upbeat Show Tune: New Dealers Chime In

Article Abstract:

The 1984 CES presented merchandisers with an overview of the total industry. Most retailers focused on audio and video hardware. Details of promotions and deliveries in the second half of 1984 were ironed out. Some confusion over the best method of mechandising matched audio-video systems was evident.

Platt in Bloom: Showrooms Blossom at Bloomingdale's: Nemesis for Competition?

Platt Music has leased Tomorrow's World - The Electronics Center at Bloomingdale's in New York. Platt plans to make the department competitive with those in other department stores. Photographs are included.
