In Japan, sales of 5x mode VCRs, video cameras reach new heights

Article Abstract:

Sales of stationary video casettes are enjoying a boom in Japan, with shipments for Aug 2000 estimated to reach 480,000 units. Strong sales have come from 5x mode VCRs, which have ten hours of recording time using 120- minute tapes; digital Hi-Vision VCRs; and D-VHS VCRs. The Sydney Olympics was an important factor in higher sales, with consumers recording the sporting events. Consumers were also anticipating the introduction of digital broadcast satellite services.

7B-BS, 7B-S series of S-VHS VCRs

Article Abstract:

Hitachi Ltd's Y70,000 7B-BS710, Y80,000 7B-BS810, Y50,000 7B-SV410, Y60,000 7B-BS710 and the open-priced 7B-BF310 and 7B-FV210 S-VHS VCRs incorporate the company's Navi Programming function to simplify weely recording of programs by overwriting. Other features of the products include a Tape Navi Data Transfer function and the Library Navi function. The 7B-BS810 model boasts of a ghost reduction tuner.

HR-VXG200/VX200 S-VHS VCRs

Article Abstract:

Victor Company of Japan Ltd's (JVC) Y75,000 HR-VX200 and the Y100,000 HR- VXG200 S-VHS feature built-in tuners for broadcast satellites. Aside from their capability to record in the Super VHS Extended Technology mode, the two products boast of substantial editing functions. To suppress blurring and noise during reproduction, the HR-VXG200 model employs JVC's digital 3-D Super Color technology.
