Lower Prices, More Promotions Name of '84 Videodisc Game

Article Abstract:

Lower prices, aggressive advertising and creative merchandising should make 1984 a good year for videodiscs. The disc's substantial sales should further improve. Hardware sales are expected to double. RCA is planning on lowering the prices of its CED videodisc players and discs. Laser disc makers are planning aggressive campaigns to meet increased demand for the industrial players used in arcade games.

Tape: Portables, Blanks in Year Ahead - Stability in Unit, Dollar Volume

Article Abstract:

1983 unit sales of portable audio tape equipment were good, but dollar volume did not see the same growth because prices fell about thirty per cent. Prices should stabilize in 1984 and dollar volume and unit sales are expected to reamin close to 1983 levels. Blank audio tape sales should reach $635 million, a 0.6 per cent drop from 1983.

VCR in Year Ahead: Higher Unit Sales, Lower Low End

Article Abstract:

1984 should be another record smashing year after a year when VCRs reached nearly ten per cent household penetration. Beta models, with between twenty-five and thirty per cent of the VCR market, will emphasize lower prices and more features. VHS manufacturers are predicting increased sales for the more expensive feature filled modes.
