Matsushita battery consolidates battery divisions

Article Abstract:

Matsushita Battery Industrial Co Ltd is restructuring nine divisions into the Primary Battery Business Group and the Rechargeable Battery Business Group. This is line with the company's goal of being the world's top manufacturer of primary batteries. The company intends to concentrate on superior products, such as alkaline dry cells with favorable large current pulse discharge properties and very slim lithium primary batteries. Further, Matsushita aims to differentiate itself from other firms in areas including packaging.

Prices fall, demand climbs amid shift to Ni-MH, lithium ion formats

Article Abstract:

Unit prices of nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH), lithium ion and nickel cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries dropped spurred by price competition among manufacturers and pressure from set makers. A rapid surge in demand for thinner-than-usual batteries that power slim, lighweight equipment is seen and sales of large-capacity lithium ion and Ni-MH batteries have been increasing over 10% annually.

Revamped automotive unit lets Panasonic meet global demand

Yoshihiro Hamada, managing director for Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co., Ltd.'s Panasonic Automotive Systems Co. discusses his company's plans to promote three main product groups, car audio, car theatre and car navigation systems. He feels that the company's reorganization last year helped in multiple ways. The new features of the car products are also discussed.
