A fast assay for E. coli
Article Abstract:
Igen International Inc has introduced an assay kit that verifies the presence of Escherichia coli in ground beef. The kit, which was developed in collaboration with the Dept of Agriculture's Eastern Regional Research Center, can conduct up to 50 tests in two hours, with results available in eight hours. In comparison, 8-48 hours are needed in conventional extended-culture enrichment. The kit is claimed to be 10-100 times more sensitive than current test methods.

Control system cuts lifecycle costs of centrifugal pumps
Article Abstract:
Goulds Pumps claims that its PumpSmart system provides savings in capital, installation, operation and maintenance costs. The system is composed of an external variable-frequency drive, control logic, and sensors that monitor the pressure differential between the pump inlet and discharge. It does not need a flowmeter or control valve, resulting in the use of smaller pumps and motors.
