Experts from the UK Patent Office believe that the services and resources of the Patent Office are being underutilized. They are keen to publicize the Search and Advisory Service, which examines patent literature for clients. The Patent Office processes over 30,000 applications a year from companies or individuals wishing to obtain a monopoly on the making, using or selling of a new product or process. The Patent Office estimates that 80% of the technical information contained in patent applications is unavailable elsewhere. Japanese companies are particularly diligent in patent analysis.
