Advanced prosthetics go for gold

Article Abstract:

Chas A. Blatchford and Sons, the UK's leader in high technology artificial legs and feet, is aiming to develop new products specifically aimed at securing gold medals for British athletes in the 2012 Paralympics, which will run alongside the main London Olympic events for the non-disabled. New prosthetic feet provide additional functionality and ease of use to amputees by making use of the new advances in high technology materials and developing new manufacturing processes.

Optical sensing system suits hostile environments

Article Abstract:

A project to monitor the sizes and shapes of particles, formed in a solution of supercritical carbon dioxide, is started by a team of doctors, which is critical in the improvement of efficiencies in thermal power generating systems. The optical sensing systems helps in monitoring the supercritical fluids where temperature and pressure are sufficient to ensure that they are neither liquid nor gas, but a single phase.

Fluid power maintains thrust

Article Abstract:

The UK, which built its industrial revolution on steam, continues to come up with radical developments in fluid power that reflects the fundamental nature of the technology and continued room for efficiency improvements. Camcon undertook a study into the feasibility of introducing high frequency modulation into the incoming fuel stream in gas and liquid-fueled turbines.
