Communities as systems

Article Abstract:

A community has to be viewed as consisting of interactive systems which, when effectively managed, leads to the betterment of the whole community. Improved functioning of the system requires knowledge of the holistic nature of systems, understanding human psychology as well as the internal and external indicators that affect the system. W. Edwards Deming asserted that an individual's efforts should never be isolated as this could cause a breakdown in the system and, consequently, in the community.

Teams in the age of systems

Article Abstract:

The proliferation of disconnected teams must be controlled since they are a liability to a company. The new management era calls for an entirely new team mind-set. Teams must support customers, systems and improvement. Furthermore, they must also be a system in themselves. Quality managers should realize that an interdependence exists among purpose, systems and teamwork.
