Article Abstract:

EDS Unigraphics appreciates that the decision to instal a product data management (PDM) system is a major one for any company. The company will need to amend its working culture and the PDM implementation process can be lengthy. Unigraphics will help by supplying a consultant to managers who are considering installing its Iman PDM package, and the company will advise on implementation strategies. The Iman package offers a complete product management system from integration with computer-aided design software through to product applications.

Law to benefit contractors

Article Abstract:

The Supply of Machinery (Saftey) Regulations came into force in Jan 1993. They implement the European Community Machinery Directive and apply to all machines with the onus on manufacturers, installers and users to comply. Few users are fully aware of the Regulations and will need specialist advice as the deadlines for compliance approach. Electrical contractors who understand the Regulations will be well placed to win business in this area. The regulations require risk assessment and safety measures to be implemented for all machinery.

The phoenix from the ashes syndrome: most contractors will have been unfortunate enough to be hit by non-payment due to company insolvency

Article Abstract:

The 1986 Insolvency Act aimed to reduce the abuse of limited liability by directors, and in the case of phoenix companies, it seeks to restrict individuals who were directors of an insolvent company from being directors of a company or concerned with the promotion, formation or management of a company. Unsecured creditors should incorporate a retention of title clause in terms and conditions, and obtain security or personal guarantee from the director.
