Enhancing intravenous services: a CQI approach

Article Abstract:

The demand for improved patient services, particularly those requiring sophisticated interventions, has given way to improvements in intravenous therapy services (IV therapy). A case in point is Virginia Baptist Hospital's redesign of its IV therapy program which is based on the concepts of continuous quality improvement and the focus, analyze, develop and execute process. A combination of the staff resource pyramid and the patient assessment tool creates a strong foundation for a crucial, continuous process.

Teaching Taguchi's approach to parameter design

Article Abstract:

Genichi Taguchi's approach to parameter design has been tested in training classes using a technical exercise of designing and building paper planes. Students of a graduate course in quality at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC, were given a background of the Taguchi approach before the experiment was conducted. They were given insights on changing current-mind set needs, the implications of poor quality on society, and producing high quality goods.

Work design for self-control in financial services

Article Abstract:

Four financial services companies were studied to determine whether their work assignments met the three criteria for self-control, namely, knowledge of tasks, knowledge of performance standards and methods for improving performance. Giving employees a sense of control over their jobs can improve performance, creativity and satisfaction. Ways companies can develop a quality culture are also discussed.
