Evaluating the introduction of JIT

Article Abstract:

The adoption of the Just In Time (JIT) philosophy by a company should be treated as an investment and should be evaluated in terms of the costs and benefits that result from it. Consequences which a company without a proper JIT evaluation may face include concentration of resources on objectives which produce minor benefits and failure to attain the optimum benefits of JIT. Major costs and benefits of JIT are also presented along with methods of evaluation.

Evaluating and Selecting Research Projects by Scoring

Article Abstract:

R & D firms must decide which projects to pursue vigorously and which to deemphasize. The Department of Energy had to decide on its solar thermal R & D program. Options include: long-term basic materials and thermal research, central receiver systems research, solar ponds, storage systems and other areas which have potential for reducing cost or increasing system output. Scoring is one method of selection.

Superinsulation choices: evaluating the three most popular systems, with tips and cautions

Article Abstract:

All superinsulation systems share almost airtight construction and high insulating levels, with mechanical ventilation. Most revolutionary is use of a continuous air-vapor barrier against condensation and for airtightness. Double-wall, frame with strapping, and curtain-wall systems are discussed and illustrated.
