Measuring progress in SPC implementation

Article Abstract:

Traditional quality measures such as customer surveys or on-time delivery percentages are indispensable for statistical process control programs of companies. The status categories grid is designed to monitor improvements in SPC. Creating such a program requires forming a committed quality improvement team to formulate appropriate operating procedures and qualities in process control, followed by actual establishment of process control by operators. Using the grid as a training, monitoring, and implementation tool resulted in quick identification of SPC areas needing immediate notice.

Total quality management in an academic health center

Article Abstract:

A survey indicates that only 44% of 1,083 US hospitals are using a continuous quality improvement management model. The George Washington University Medical Center started its focus on quality in the spring of 1989 and its quality transformation model was created to assess the extent of the total quality management initiatives. The model is a prime example of how the health care industry can include quality-related management concepts in its corporate sturcture.
