Multithreaded processor architectures

Article Abstract:

Latency, the number of cycles it takes a microprocessor to complete an operation, can be hidden using multithreaded architectures, which use multiple concurrent execution streams called threads. Such architectures make it possible to initiate a second operation while an operation involving many cycles takes place on another thread. No multithreaded architectures have yet found commercial success.
