Now elastomers slip like wet ice

Article Abstract:

Shamban Europe's PolyMod process changes the structure of a base elastomer to produce a material with outstanding tribological qualities and a different physical structure. Applications for the new, undisclosed technology will mainly be in the fluid power sealing market. Initial components are likely to be linear wipers and excluders and rotary lip seals. Company engineers are also focusing on other possible markets, including elastomeric gaiters, toothed drive belts and windshield wipers.

Training: the key to applying air products

Article Abstract:

Training in how to use air products is important, and most large component makers and suppliers offer such courses within the pneumatics industry. A locally based distributor should know of the training services on offer from suppiers. Training courses are structured on different complexity levels. New courses are regulary made available. Distance software and video learning packages are on offer from some makers, including systems combining training, design and diagnostic tools.

Batch processor recycles heat: a revolutionary coffee roasting machine holds the promise of cost-effective fluidised bed heat treatment

Article Abstract:

A new roasting technology will revolutionise the global coffee industry. Traditional industrial coffee roasting machines consist of a drum, which rotates the beans, above a gas burner. Heat transfer is mainly be conduction. A PLC managed, closed loop, fluidised be roasting system has been developed, where heat transfer is from hot air to the coffee bean, which raises roasting temperature and reduces cycle time.
