Pesticide regulation in the 21st century

Article Abstract:

A brief chronology is presented on the accumulation of data regarding the environmental impact of pesticides, and the need for accountability and transparency in chemical research and development. Topics include models for predicting a pesticide's movement through a given ecosystem and the knowledge gaps that remain between the capacity to detect and calculate pesticide exposures and the ultimate effects of those exposures.

An evaluation is presented on the benefits of partnerships between universities and corporations, and examines some challenges such partnerships create. These include balancing corporate proprietary information with academia's dependency on disclosure, potential conflicts of interest, and the proper allocation of funding.
