Multifunction instrument can monitor two separate systems

Article Abstract:

Barnant has developed the Liquid-Sense Fluid Monitoring System tthat can detect fluid leaks, dry pumping time due to out-of-fluid conditions and liquid levels. It is compatible with most pumping configurations. It sounds an audible alarm, lights a red LED and can switch on back-up pumps and systems, when triggered. The product can be configured with two interchangeable sensors plus two pumps or valves to monitor one or two completely separate systems.

Portal can find explosives

Article Abstract:

A portal can detect explosives and potentially other types of contraband. It samples the human thermal plume which is a layer of warm air that surrounds and ascends from a person's entire body. A preliminary sysytem can perform an analysis in 10 seconds. The trapped material is analyzed by an ion trap mobility spectrometer. The portal can differentiate among different types of explosives. It is currently undergoing field testing.

Steam trap monitoring system using radio waves

Article Abstract:

Armstrong International's SteamEye radio frequency monitoring system is capable of gathering instantaneous performance information from up to 2,000 steam traps simultaneously. The system, which comes with a software that manages and stores transmitted monitoring data, is used to quickly identify steam traps that have failed without the need for maintenance personnel to physicallly test each steam trap in the plant.
