Still waiting for the bus

Article Abstract:

The lack of an international standard complicates the field bus system market. Field bus systems are being increasingly used in industrial applications, but there are many different technologies which cannot be used together because of the lack of global standardization. A European standard does exist, but this is considered to have faults. It includes three different protocols from Germany, France and Denmark, but not that of the Fieldbus Foundation. LonWorks technology is becoming increasingly widespread and Honeywell has introduced the Smart Distributed System based on Control Area Network.

Cool for Cat 6

Networks Telecom 99 Show at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre is vigorously promoting Category 6 products, despite the lack of relevant standards. Confident that there will be no change in the main performance requirements set out in the draft standards for Cat 6/Class E cabling systems, manufacturers have pressed ahead with developing new systems and components.
