U.S. inventors garner half of foreign-origin patents

Article Abstract:

US inventors have again displayed their world-class craft in science and technology, as they acquired 45% of all patents issued in 1999. A report issued by the National Science Foundation Division of Science Resources Studies revealed that the US obtained the most number of foreign patent awards among 11 nations studied. Such performances do not only reflect the country's openness to foreign-developed technologies, but also signify the immense concern of US companies in intellectual property protection.
