Which comes first: the chicken or the egg?

Article Abstract:

An industrial experiment in India showed that motivating the workers to improve can proceed before all system problems were eradicated, provided that the employees are convinced of management's commitment. Workers in general believe in quality but need to know that their efforts and suggestions are appreciated. Employee motivation efforts did help improve quality even before physical problems were all fixed, but efforts to improve the system must proceed simultaneously.

How to develop a meaningful employee recognition program

Article Abstract:

An employee recognition program should agree with the principles and values of a company, thus communicating the importance of those principles to all employees. The encouragement of employees' contributions by means of rewards is a form of motivation rather than manipulation or compensation, and requires the personal involvement of the management. The programs should be monitored periodically for relevance and effectiveness.
