The proper distribution of TQM

Article Abstract:

Total Quality Management (TQM) has been successfully implemented in the Harrisburg, PA, branch of Bearings Inc, distributors of products such as replacement bearings and power transmission components. As a result, process variation and transaction errors have decreased and inventory is managed better. The 12 employees of the branch split into six teams responsible for different aspects of the work at the branch, with freedom to experiment and learn from mistakes. This case study shows that quality is linked to employee empowerment rather than managerial dictation.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center used quality methods in its interventional radiology department. The result was more patients and more satisfaction for patients, employees and referring physicians.
