Time to give circuit testing a quick break

Article Abstract:

The 'IEE 16th Edition Wiring Regulations', of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) needs to be revised, as its guidelines for residual current circuit breakers (RCCBs) are confusing. The regulations refer to British Standards (BS) and the details for testing RCCBs are not clear. The lack of information on testers about permissible disconnection times also adds to the problem. When BS standards are changed, the problem could be aggravated. There is a need for contractors to ensure that they use the most recently approved test equipment, and for an addendum to Regulation 412-06-02.

All over protection

Article Abstract:

Implementing the UK Data Protection Act in 1998 could cost an estimated 836 million pounds sterling in the first year, with a second year costing 600 million pounds sterling, according to research carried out by Norwich Union. The Act is designed to protect the rights of individuals with regard to personal information kept on them, and who has access to that information. Firms will need to comply with the Data Protection Act to avoid being fined by individuals who have been affected by inaccurate data being used.
