What makes real engineers and which path should they follow?

An attempt is made to encourage more students to take up practical engineering subjects. However, there are positions that are listed for weeks relating to electronics and embedded systems requiring two or more year's experience, but there seem to be virtually no positions for new graduates or openings to gain experience.
