A new vision of ocean biogeochemistry after a decade of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS)

Article Abstract:

A 10-year study of ocean carbon cycles has shown deep-sea organisms exhibit seasonal growth patterns and particle export into the deep ocean follows seasonal cycles of primary productivity in surface waters. These findings link the fixation of carbon in the upper ocean with the slow physical circulation ventilating deep waters.
