Forest fires and environmental haze in Southeast Asia: using the 'stakeholder' approach to assign costs and responsibilities

Article Abstract:

The authors examine incentive mechanisms and regulatory policies aimed at reducing the pollution produced by controlled burnings in Southeast Asia, which are used to clear land for agricultural cultivation. Topics discussed include environmental awareness programs, air quality and health education campaigns, and changes to current land allocation and management practices.

Towards participatory environmental management?

Article Abstract:

The article evaluates the role of citizen participation in environmental management, which has historically been a centralized process with narrowly defined concepts. While citizen participation has promoted a more inclusive approach and holistic conceptualization of environmental management, the extent of its practical application remains in question.
