Out of the shadows: regional grain exchanges object of new study

Article Abstract:

Grain trade is a thriving black market in West African countries because of wide variations in trade policy. Only 2/3 of the demand for cereals is met by regional production but up to 200,000 tons per year is re-exported because of lax trade laws and high demand elsewhere. A meeting of the Club du Sahel and the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel was held in Bamako, Mali to relay facts gathered since 1986 and try to coordinate policy.

Article Abstract:

Rivkin denies any involvement in the death of Sydney model Caroline Byrne. Byrne's body was found at the bottom of a cliff in 1995. Her fiance, Gordon Wood, had been Rivkin's driver and personal assistant. Newspapers printed an unstantiated report that Rivkin had sexual relations with Wood. Rivkin denies any such involvement.
