Promoting the use of environmental data collected by concerned citizens through information and communication technologies

Article Abstract:

The role of the information and communication technologies (ICT) in developing a system for environmental collaborative monitoring intended to promote the use of volunteer collected data is analyzed. A collaborative system that allows the public to express its knowledge on the state of the environment is described with the help of a case study for beach quality monitoring.

Measuring principles' values for environmental budget management: an exploratory study

Article Abstract:

A combination of telephone and mail survey is chosen in Kentucky to verify the usefulness of contingent, public budget increment allocation as a tool to reveal citizens' values that are relevant to public decision makers who manage environmental programs. A budget choices technique is made and applied to state management of environmental programs.

Co-management: Concepts and methodological implications

Article Abstract:

Co-management, or the joint management of the commons, is formulated in terms of some arrangement of power sharing between the State and a community of resource users. An approach focusing on the legal aspects of co-management, and emphasizing the formal structure of arrangements, runs the risk of neglecting the functional side of co-management.
