Species abundance models and patterns in dragonfly communities; effect of fish predators

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to investigate whether dragonfly larvae community composition and species abundance curves are sensitive to variation in predation intensity and whether the fit to a particular niche partioning model could be used to make inferences about mechanisms structuring communities. Large differences were found in the relative abundances of dragonfly species when comparing lakes having or lacking fish.

Slugs, willow seedlings and nutrient fertilization: intrinsic vigor inversely affects palatability

Article Abstract:

The way preference of a generalist slug herbivore Arion subfuscus changes inversely with willow seedlings' size across three levels of fertilization is examined. A positive phenotypic correlation is found between the size and tannin production in the willow seedling.

Preference and performance of a gall-inducing sawfly: plant vigor, sex, gall traits and phenology

Article Abstract:

The relationship of preference and performance of the leaf-folding sawfly Phyllocolpa leavitti on Salix discolor is investigated. The predictions of the plant vigor hypothesis, the sex-biased herbivory hypothesis and the enemy-free space hypothesis are examined.
