Which traits promote persistence of feral GM crops? Part 2: implications of metapopulation structure

Article Abstract:

A structure metapopulation model with local dispersal, mimicking a string of roadside subpopulations of feral generally modified (GM) crop is studied. The result shows that, given spatially random disturbances, dispersal slows down the decline of the metapopulation and results in the occurrence of long-lasting local populations, which remain more or less static in space.

Evolution of recruitment features in plants: a comparative study of species in the Rosaceae

Article Abstract:

Research on environmental variation and trade-offs in the plant species Rosaceae indicates that seed size is positively correlated to seedling emergence and establishment ability. However, a negative correlation was found between seed dormancy and seedling survivorship.

The applicability of metapopulation theory to large mammals

Article Abstract:

The authors recommend a metapopulation model for large mammals that incorporates demographic fates of subpopulations, instead of subpopulation turnover. This approach solves problems associated with longer temporal scales used to record colonizations and extinctions.
