Applying compost and mulches to control erosion

Article Abstract:

Composted organic matter has proved a useful element in a number of projects undertaken by the California Department of Transportation. It has been shown that this material can provide valuable nutrients for the soil, as well as encouraging soil particles to bind together and therefore make the soil more resistant to erosion. The Department is about to instigate further research into compost and cocompost products which have the potential to limit soil erosion.
