Building a pad from lime stabilized soil

Article Abstract:

Lime soil stabilization can offer an appropriate solution for composting facility siting. This technique creates an impervious layer, ensuring that water does not penetrate, and also offers an all-weather surface that permits vehicles to be used in all conditions. The ease with which soils can be stabilized varies, but most soils can be lime stabilized. Sandy or silty soils with less than 10% clay will require a source of silicates and aluminates to create links between soil particles for the natural cement to form.

Five years of composting in Edmonton, Alberta

Article Abstract:

Edmonton, Alberta has become a national leader in effective waste management through recycling, reuse and composting programs, where about 60 percent of residential waste is being diverted from the landfill. Waste and recyclables collected from Edmonton's residents are processed at the Edmonton Waste Management Center since 2000, which includes a materials recovery facility, a leachate treatment plant to support the on-site landfill, and a concrete recycling operation.

Composting fish manure from aquaculture operations

Article Abstract:

A new layered mesophilic compost system was developed to provide fish farmers and others who use liquid systems as an alternative to expensive solids management technology. This system uses resources and equipment that are available within current management operations.
