Building an ethanol industry

Article Abstract:

The California Energy Commission has reported on the possible development of an ethanol industry that could help tackle the problem of the gasoline additive, MTBE, which can contaminate groundwater. Biomass waste can be used to produce ethanol, and biomass waste comes from a range of sources, including forest waste, solid waste from municipal collections, and agricultural waste. The industry needs capital and a reliable feedstock supply. Tax provisions favor ethanol production in the US.
