Expanding uses for poultry litter

Article Abstract:

The expansion of the poultry industry in West Virginia is sending alarm signals to government and university officials regarding the feasibility of managing poultry litter, which is composed of bedding and manure, for compost production. To this end, researchers are conducting sot analysis studies reagarding the feasibility of constructing off-farm composting facilities in the poultry industry. Target markets for the compost products are cattle feeding and agricultural land application. A litterdisposal fee is being considered to be the main attraction for private investment.
