Food processor reaps benefits from change to dissolved air flotation clarification

Article Abstract:

Marburger Foods Inc was able to meet municipal discharge requirments by using a dissolved air flotation (DAF) clarification technology in its wastewater pretreatment system for its pre-cooked ham processing operation. Moreover, the three DAF clarifiers at the plant, which were supplied by Springfield, MO-based Precision Environmental Systems, enabled Marburger to salvage fat at an average rate of 35,000 lbs/week. The fat is sold by the company for livestock and pet food.

Bulk bag unloader, flexible conveyor improve filtration effectiveness at winery

Article Abstract:

Beringer Wine Estates in St Helena, CA, was able to optimize the filtration efficiency in its diatomaceous earth unloading and winery waste filtration area after installing an automated bulk bag unloader and flexible screw conveyor system. The improved filtration effectiveness due to the unloading and conveying system, which was developed by Flexicon Corp, allowed the winery to recoupe in less than three years the money it spend for the automated system.

Lime slurry: make-up process modeling techniques

Article Abstract:

The hydrogen fluoride (HF) contained in wastewater from a semiconductor manufacturing plant can be removed by pumping lime slurry into a HF reaction tank. The lime slurry dosage process involves two steps. The first step is to pump enough lime to react with the HF. The dosage is based on the stoichiometric mass balance. The second step is for pH adjustment to enhance the reaction.
