Safe recycling of used oil

Article Abstract:

The major consideration in the recycling of used oil is the reduction of accidents and mishandling of oil. The technique adopted for the used oil recycling operation should also be environmentally sound. Good management is required in every step of the recycling chain namely used oil recycling, pollution control, insurance coverage and environmental compliance record. A number of different technologies are used in the recycling process that include rerefining and reprocessing of industrial fuel.

Do-it-yourself used oil recycling

Article Abstract:

Do-it-yourself (DIY) used oil changers cause environmental damage by causing the discharge of used oil with trash onto soil or down the sewage system. As an illustration, it is mentioned that only 57% of about 1.3 billion gallons of used oil per year are accounted for by recycling, ten percent of which is DIY used oil. Public education on the environmental cost benefits of DIY used oil recycling should highlight the environmental and economic impact of used oil pollution.

Used lubricants to gasoline

Article Abstract:

The Lyondell Petrochemical Co in Houston, Tx. has processed used lubricating oils into gasoline and heating oil. The products were found to achieve the same level of quality as that directly derived from crude oil. Unlike other recycling processes which uses pretreatment, Lyondell utilizes a delayed coking unit which breaks down hydrocarbon molecules into gasoline, heating oil and petroleum coke.
