When deconstruction pays: Too good to throw away

Article Abstract:

Building materials reuse stores provide markets that redirect deconstructed lumber and other materials into homes and factories, resulting in resource preservation involving the local community by providing employment and also saving money for the consumers. Profiles of two such building material reuse stores are presented.

C&D management facility upgrade

Article Abstract:

The city of Portland, Maine has a Riverside Recycling Facility Site (RRF), which accepts bulky waste, leaves and construction and demolition (C&D) debris from residents. The Portland Department of Public Works (DPW) has a plan to increase diversion of recovered C&D, including wood that is ground for boiler fuel.

Turning up the heat on sludge recycling

Wastewater treatment residuals, such as paper mill sludge and municipal biosolids are made use of in the vitrification process. Glass feedstocks are generated from paper mill sludge and municipal biosolids, by many companies that have beneficial construction applications.
