Himalayan exodus: Nepalese migrant groups

Article Abstract:

Migration of people from Nepal to other parts of the world due to poverty is a major political and social concern. Only the old and disabled are left in the villages to attend to agricultural and social activities. Young women live as sex workers in the cities of India and elsewhere, often returning in penury afflicted with diseases. Long distance traders, army workers, and the youth are the most mobile. Migrants in foreign lands often generate political conflicts like the Gorkhaland agitation in the state of West Bengal, India.
