A3: food and drink - an ever-expanding market

Article Abstract:

There is increasing investment interest in the UK's public-house and restaurant premises market, with rental levels rising. Large food-service groups, such as Regent Inns, Youngs and Grosvenor Inns, are competing for properties in the public-house market, driven by the increasing popularity of public-houses with restaurant facilities. The merger of the restaurants and public-house markets into the A3 sector of the Town and Country (Use Classes) Order 1978 has led to a battle between the two sides to win prime locations.

Meyer Schapiro's Jewish unconscious

Article Abstract:

Art historian and critic Meyer Schapiro believes that a Jewish identity and artistic creativity are related in what might be termed as the Jewish paradox. Although Schapiro's Jewish identity never surfaced in his writings, his belief that artists create something positive out of a negative social experience is essentially Jewish. Just as it is the Jew's role to represent creative survival against all odds, it is also the artist's role to establish an identity against such odds.
