Incorporating health into models of marriage choice: demographic and sociological perspectives

Article Abstract:

Health variables play a significant role in shaping the marriage choices of individuals. A study reveals that persons with poor health and physical statuses, and persons demonstrating unhealthy behavior patterns have lower marriage rates than healthy persons. Many health-related marriage choices are based solely on the observed behaviors and attributes of individuals rather than the observance of some diseases and functional disabilities in them. The first marriage rates in the US depends on health-related variables.

Feminism, family work, and moral discourse: A comment on Ahlander and Bahr's "Beyond Drudgery, Power, and Equity."(response to Nancy Rollins Ahlander and Kathleen Slaugh Bahr, 'Journal of Marriage and the Family,' vol. 57, p. 54, 1995)

Article Abstract:

Nancy Rollins Ahlander and Kathleen Slaugh Bahr's article "Beyond Drudgery, Power, and Equity" has given rise to arguments against their presentation of feminist research and theory. Ahlander and Bahr provide an incorrect picture of the contributions made by feminist scholars in the field of family work and housework. Their claim that feminist theories aim to end family work is erroneous. Moreover, Ahlander and Bahr's discussion on moral work within families is limited to privatized models of family life.

Marriage, sex, and mortality

Article Abstract:

The relationship between marital status and mortality was analyzed. Findings revealed that both marital status and income affect couples' life span. Men, whether married or unmarried, were found to have shorter life expectancies. Unmarried males were more likely to suffer from social pathologies, such as accidents, suicide, homicide and liver cirrhosis, than their married counterparts.
