Order amidst disorder: marital transitions of young adults

Article Abstract:

Disorder in economic activity is a factor behind disrupted marital pattern for women, while having a child prior to marriage is closely related to a disrupted marital pattern among men. This was gleaned from a study of marital patterns using data from the high school class of 1972, which experienced the transition to adulthood at a time of social change in the US. Predictors of an orderly marital pattern for males include being Catholic, a mother with college education and a high income, while for females, these include a homemaker mother, high income and an ordered work history.

Young nonresident biological fathers

Article Abstract:

Many factors shape young nonresident fathers' responses to fatherhood. Further advances in studying them will depend on large scale studies that creatively approach sampling strategy and fathers' attitudes and experiences. Future strategies intended to involve young fathers with their children will be affected by the ongoing reevaluation of the role of fathers and their relationship to mothers with distinct rights.

Alcohol first use and attitudes among young children

Article Abstract:

Results from Bogalusa Heart Study, 1993-94 showed that over a third of the children in grades three to six had experimented with alcohol. Family modeling was the main environmental factor in experimentation, while curiosity was the main personal factor. Many of the children felt that alcohol use could lead to accidents and that drinking has negative consequences socially.
