A cut above: California sends skilled vineyard workers to Europe to help with vineyard conversions

Article Abstract:

A group of six highly-trained Mexican viticulture workers traveled to Bordeaux, Burgundy and wine districts in other countries to help graft new grape varieties. Examples of their work included grafting a Cabernet Sauvignon cutting onto a Cabernet Franc vine.

The French connection: with a shortage of grapes at home, California vintners tap imports from southern France to fill their bottles

Many California wineries are buying bulk wine from Languedoc, but Sutter Home Winery complains that the trend will make California wine lost its identity. Other vintners say that they will lose customers to foreign wineries if they do not import wine.
