An expanding universe of great wine lists

The Wine Spectator's annual Restaurant Awards Program for 2001 has seen more entires this year despite problems with the economy. The basic award is the Award of Excellence and 573 were presented in 2001.

The 24th annual Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards list provides a guide to restaurants. The Grand Award is the highest honor in the Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards Program that recognizes those selected restaurants which deliver unparalleled quality with their wine programs.

Restaurants for wine lovers

Article Abstract:

Nearly 500 restaurants submitted their wine lists for judging in the annual awards program sponsored by 'The Wine Spectator'. 389 of them received an award, bringing the total list of award-winners to 2,113. Many of the new restaurants were able to extend their wine lists by plumbing the cellars of private collectors. A directory of the new winners is included.
