Panel plants top list of capital expenditures

Forest products companies around the world plan to construct facilities capable of manufacturing wood-based panels. Some of the companies planning such expensive capital expenditures include MacMillan Bloedel Ltd, CanFibre Group, Masonite Corp, Dainippon Ink and Chemicals Inc and Nissho Iwai Corp. Additionally, forest products companies are also constructing other facilities. For example, FibreForm Wood Products, Cascade Timber and Buchanan Northern Hardwoods Inc plan to construct sawmills.

European building system offers strength, precision

Verbund Schalungs System Systembau + Technologie produces Duo-Massiv permanent shuttering system panels at a Chemnitz, Germany, plant. The Duo-Massiv system is changing European construction methods for multiple-story structures such as houses and hotels. The system is based on composite 'sandwiches' containing cement-bonded particleboard, fasteners, steel reinforcing bars, and plastic spacers.

Panel industry makes another strong showing
Article Abstract:
Some 218 panel industry construction, improvement, and enlargement projects are scheduled to be completed, according to Wood Technology's 1997 survey. The survey's results indicate that the surge in North American oriented strand board capacity is ending and that global capacity for medium-density fiberboard (MDF) is increasing. The survey lists 69 MDF projects.
