A tale of districts

Article Abstract:

The Bellflower and the Sacramento Unified School Districts offer examples of the successful rebuilding of leadership in California's school system. The exceptional performance of the Bellflower Unified School District, with its near-zero dropout rate, resolution of the truancy problem, and improved facilities, is being emulated by the Sacramento Unified School District. Bellflower's development is being attributed to the ideal co-existence between the superintendent, school board, teachers' union, and the students, and an effective alliance of educational and management philosophies.

Are you having fun yet?

Article Abstract:

Scuba diving used to be taught in a way that most likely discourages learners because rigid standards that are impossible to achieve were established. This discouraged many people who are not macho enough from getting into the sport. However, things have changed and diving became everybody's sport. It has become a recreational sport, rather than a competition, that is open for all who are willing to enjoy it.

Grammar cops: they're giving out tickets on the Info Highway

Article Abstract:

A woman browsing through various Internet newsgroups finds numerous exchanges on incorrect grammar. Nit-pickers show up everywhere. The most common mistake is the misspelling of the word grammar. Users may whine that the subject of a given newsgroup is not grammar, but the guardians of English are unfazed.
