A tax that could leave workers flat

Article Abstract:

Some Republicans favor a flat tax proposal that would tax everyone at the same rate. However, such a tax would instead eliminate or diminish current employers' tax exemptions for employee health and pension benefits. Conservatives would like to see this exemption eliminated so that employees would be more likely to purchase their own health insurance. However, a study indicates that health insurance and pension costs would actually increase 21% if a flat tax were to take effect.

Close, but no panacea

Article Abstract:

The Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly or PACE provides financing care for frail seniors. There are high costs for institutions and seniors in the program but the balanced budget law will allow more disabled seniors to obtain care through these programs. Seniors are admitted to hospitals and nursing homes at a lower rate and are more satisfied with their lifestyle as part of this program than other frail, aged patients that must seek other alternatives.

Be it ever so jumbled
